WHAT'S THE

CONCEPT

“Imagination means nothing without doing.”

Charlie Chaplin

I have come to believe that opportunities come to fruition at the right time. Through working with Dimitri Chamblas, a teacher from my Masters program, I found the inspiration and drive that I needed to follow my own path: “If you have an idea and you want to propose it. Do it. And if they refuse your proposal, ask someone else”

The idea was to invite six different choreographers to create a 15 minute choreographic work, but in a very condensed amount of time. My first step in the process was to connect choreographers, dancers and musicians. Working with a sound designer myself has been a real eye opening experience for my projects and I wanted others to have the same experience, as well as expanding a network between dancers and artists from various fields that can perhaps prove useful for their future collaborations.

The choreographers have the freedom to choose with whom to collaborate, which media to experiment with such as light, projections, sound and voice. They are free to choose whether to have a definite ending or not, as well as a possibility to redesign or reconstruct their chosen space.

By balancing restrictions with freedom, I hoped to give the choreographers the enjoyment of creating without certain limits or creative pressure. Naturally, I have applied a time limit and my reasoning behind this is to strengthen their ability to make internal, snap decisions based on gut instinct rather than over-thinking their ideas. I believe this is the way forward for an artist to thrive and have a more nurturing experience.
